Thanks for the link! I focus the Horror half of the course on the monster and monstrous. Stoker's novel is such a great book for thinking about how the monster disrupts and intrudes upon the normal, comfortable world of the characters.

It is a great course to teach. I love the chance to introduce students possibly to works and authors they may not know. And, very true that it used to be rare to have university courses on SFF. I feel quite lucky to be able to teach such courses.

I still need to get the "classic" anthology. I'd also love to do a course on the origins of modern fantasy. 😊

Never Let Me Go is one of my favourite novels. Heartbreaking, indeed. I think the film is one of the best novel adaptations I've ever watched. It just gets the tone and mood of the novel pitch perfect. Carey Mulligan is superb.

Which ones are new to you? (And, it's great you're ordering them!)

The first unit is "Foundations": Le Guin and Butler.

The second unit is "Artificial Lives": Gibson and Ishiguro.

The third unit is "Commodifying the Other": Adjei-Brenyah and Dimaline.

Thanks. I'm really looking forward to talking about each book. They're all great and challenging novels. 😊

The prose is just gorgeous, and then there's the ingenuity of the narrative structure and worldbuilding, but it's the characters that hit so beautifully because they're full and complicated and messy and mysterious and more.

I have his other one, yes! It's very near the top of my TBR pile. ☺️
