True story.

Seven-panel comic depicting me toiling away at the difficult task of drawing comics, considering quitting, and a rather conveniently received email from a 5th grader that encouraged me to continue.

Comics can be hard work, often with setbacks and challenges, but the inspiration they might give to others can make all the toil worth it.

SUPERBATOBER 08: OTTER -- Batgirl finally has her own pet sidekick and it's an... otter? Really thought it would be a bat. But gotta listen to the prompts! Regardless, Supergirl seems pleased. Streaky seems curiously apprehensive.

SUPERBATOBER 05: CRUSH -- Batgirl and Nightwing are getting toppled on by a bunch of rubble! Well if there's anyone Batgirl is about to get toppled by rubble with, at least it's Nightwing. Or so it seems by her blushing expression. Maybe things will work out after all.

It can be whoever anyone wants. It's fan art. If you get too caught up in continuity, it stops being fun.

For here, I liked Shiera's look, but thought adding a Justice Gang necklace would be a cool touch.
