Maybe I'll watch the whole ep, but I was kind of dizzy from just the credits. Just found out that JAMES star Lance Kerwin died two years ago. That makes me kind of melancholy. Kind of felt like I knew the guy... (7/END)

I tried watching an ep of JAMES AT 15 on YouTube and the opening credits, which was a montage of James walking around the Common and elsewhere, punched my brain like a bite from one of Proust's madeleines. (6)

I didn't have the cultural vocabulary to describe it at the time, but James was a flâneur, one who strolls through cities to observe life and who appreciates the cultural opportunities urban life affords. It was just that James had a city that afforded so much more than what I grew up with. (4)

JAMES AT 15, set in and filmed in Boston, solidified that escape plan in my mind. James had the kind of life I longed for as a late 70s teen. He had a public transit system that gave him access to world-class museums and libraries. He could pursue a number of creative interests and hobbies. (2)
