Jams are an amazing way to store fruits, and they're delicious. Get ya a good apple butter or blackberry preserve recipe or whatever you'd prefer and make it. You can even do ones that are diabetic friendly if ya need to. Food is one thing that'll bring everyone together if ya do it right.

Also, water bathing certain fruits and veggies can be far more risky than it's worth. Pressure canners are well worth the money if you want to make things more shelf stable. NEVER water bath potatoes, carrots, or beets as a good rule of thumb.
