Totally understandable! That being said, I actually had a brilliant student in a year like that once - their sheer investment in the class material made the whole thing feel worthwhile again. Reminded me why I wanted to teach in the first place.

I’ve tried pairing those stronger students with each other occasionally - not to isolate them, but to give them space to work without constantly compensating for others. It’s not a fix-all, but it’s made a difference in morale, I think.

Had a cohort like that once - group work was a mess, but you’d always get one or two who took charge.

There’s always a good few who stand out. I do wonder how it feels for students wanting a better learning experience but left carrying the weight of disengaged peers.
