I have this one on the TBR and quite a few others from the same author. Should be a good read.

I have previously read about the 2nd Independent Company in Bernard Callinan’s ‘Independent Company: The Australian Army in Portuguese Timor 1941-43’. It’s a great story and I’m really looking forward to reading Colin Doig’s history.

Thanks, Alex. I'm looking forward to getting stuck in over the weekend.

Like Lark Force in New Britain and Gull Force in Ambon, we are faced with a theme: a hopeless military task within a misguided strategy leading to a brutal period of captivity. It’s an interesting copy, too. Heavily highlighted with a hand-written note about Pandora’s Box taped to the inside cover.

One of my most treasured books.

I’m about halfway through this and it’s a much better follow-up to Joan Beaumont’s ‘Gull Force‘ than I was expecting. I’ve previously read ‘Ambon: Island of Mist’ by Courtney Harrison and may re-read that next before moving on to Timor and another doomed Australian infantry battalion: the 2/40th.
