📙 Bluesky is the only platform where I haven’t circulated my book, as I’d recently joined and was waiting for the physical copy. So here it is (last book post, I promise) 📙

Thank you to everyone who came to our first project Advisory Board meeting yesterday. We had some really fantastic conversations about our research, and meaningful ways of disseminating it. Really looking forward to everyone's input over the course of the project.

Delighted that the CfP for the first @kthabitproject.bsky.social workshop is now live! Please do circulate freely, and consider submitting an abstract if of interest. Also more than happy to answer any queries you might have about the workshop, etc.

Thanks for the offer! That would be great (esp. as we have some stuff from the @scotfootballmuseum.bsky.social we've still figuring out what to do with, research wise). Should I send an email to [email protected]?

Here's the first blog for our new project: 'Kicking the Habit: ‘Addictive’ Sport Sponsorship in Britain, 1965-2025'.

It explores the tobacco, alcohol and gambling industries' sponsorship of sport in Britain.

Like @fabiolacreed.bsky.social, I'm so happy to be working with such an amazing team!

Thanks to @the-polyphony.bsky.social for posting a blog introducing our project, 'Kicking the Habit: ‘Addictive’ Sport Sponsorship in Britain, 1965-2025', on the tobacco, alcohol and gambling industries’ sponsorship of football, rugby, cricket, F1 & tennis.

Providing keen insight into how local narratives about absinthe shaped what quickly became a global reputation, Studer provides a panoptic view of the French Empire’s influence on absinthe’s fall from grace

It's been a busy month of researching, thinking, learning and writing for @claireljones.bsky.social and I, so much so that we are excited to share TWO new posts on our project website... 🖋️📖

Have a chat with @pederclark.bsky.social. He's literally doing a project all about this.

Not a book, but the first thing that comes to mind is Maxine Berg's article 'The Pursuit of Luxury.' Connects British industrial output to tastes developed for 'colonial goods' by Company trade, etc.

I've also just made an alcohol/drugs starter pack (based on my limited follows) and added you to it Jen.

I know James Kneale has made one for DSN folks, but I don't think there is one for drugs/intoxicants more generally yet.

Does anyone know if there's a #drinkhistory or history of intoxication/social history of alcohol and drugs starter pack on here?
milkwknives.bsky.social
No worries at all James. I did get the most recent copy of the newsletter. I think its just the website I'm not on yet.
milkwknives.bsky.social
Could you add me as well please James? Still waiting to be added to the members roster on the DSN webpage.

Inevitably, I've made a Drinking Studies Network starter pack based on the DSN's members list (drinkingstudies.wordpress.com/members-2/) If you don't want to be included, or if you see people I've missed and could add, please let me know!

No worries. And not sure. I know it used to be code-only but I think that isn't a thing anymore? I'll keep an eye out for Morgan if she does join and send her a follow. And glad to hear you enjoyed it. It was good to see you too!
milkwknives.bsky.social
I've taken to just looking at who other people are following (via their profiles) and adding them for there Steve. Thanks again for coming to the workshop today btw. It was great to see/hear from you, Morgan, and Alice!

#Historians of bluesky: I'm looking for scholarship on the history of matrimonial/personal adverts - there's plenty on the late 19C but I'm struggling to find anything looking at the 1830s-40sn
