There's a lot of discourse about whether you can learn anything useful/improve from writing fic, and I understand the other side, but if you put the effort in to write different perspectives, different tones, different voices, etc. it really does help.

So in the post-Stabler era you're more likely to see rich white men as the villains and so on. The most recent ep had a white supremacist commune and a eugenics-obsessed techbro funding them obviously based on Elon Musk.

Stabler left I don't even remember how many years ago, specifically because he was too violent and took everything too personally, leaving Benson to be the central character. I also don't remember the timing of this, but the show also started getting better about its targets at some point, too ...

So the show was originally built around Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler, with some regular ensemble characters. They were very complementary, with Benson often being "the kind one who can connect to victims" and Stabler being "the angry one who explodes at criminals in interrogation".
