The intuition of a sharp old woman is nothing to scoff at after all. Both my sister and cousins have their shit together, while I'm lagging behind. Even when it comes to family she keeps me tethered almost a decade after her passing with her kindness. And she probably knew is the crazy part.

I feel like as a woman with so much experience dealing with children (especially her daughter's) she might have felt something like "she's gonna have a bit of extra problems so might as well help out early" or something. Even after my cousin and sister she was still like that.

Particio then sees the same thing happen elsewhere, no common good can be taken for those with nothing, it's just bullying to line their own pocket. It's not the taxes themselves but taxing while giving nothing in common good back and what that says about the people doing it.

If you want a second perspective, from what I saw of the story it felt like "wealth extraction = bad". A foreign entity comes to particio's town, sucks all resources from it without giving anything to the residents, then goes to do it again somewhere else.
