Oh yes. People fought because they wanted their ship to be the only one, or because they hated a character, but no real moral discussion was ever made. When I was editor for a scanlation group I saw some other groups scanlating things that would have the whole Twitter on fire. We just ignored it.

As someone that got to experience fandom culture in the early 2000, I can agree. We did have ship wars and some of them were gruesome, but the overall vibe was much more positive and people generally minded their own business. It's a shame to see fandoms rot so badly nowadays. *Old woman compaints.*
