I think part of the reason I’m so much more focused on music than archaeology these days is that the social, governmental and bureaucratic environment around any type of research is so grim these days. I’ll do archaeology as long as I can but the future no longer seems bright.

It’s fun when your amp is buzzing from EMI and the solution is to move away from other electronics, my house is tiny and old and there’s like one electrical outlet per room, it ain’t gonna happen.

For the last few weeks I’ve been making an effort to practice bass no matter how terrible of a mood I’m in (if I’m in the same city as the instrument), and you know what? My mood is often less terrible when I’ve done it.

One small executive function thing that gets me EVERY TIME is when my card expires and I get a new one and I don’t update all of my payment info on all of the things.

I was kinda hardcore about working out before my kid was born and now I’m like “maybe I can put on music that makes me want to dance for 15-20 minutes” and that’s gotta be enough
much of fitness culture in the US was developed by people who literally entered sports and physical education instead of going to therapy and the attitudes around intensity and effort kinda reflect that. the smiling Jazzercise folks were right and your football coach / PE teacher was wrong

Catching a Star War on TV during Christmas does hit different than watching it any other way
Return of the Jedi is a Christmas movie. In that the first time I watched it I was like 8 and it was Christmas and I watched it on the tiny TV in my grandparents’ back room with commercial breaks and I still thought it was the greatest thing I’d ever seen.

Oh the administration are trying to ruin Christmas waaaay harder during Trump 2 than Trump 1. You can’t listen to the Christmas music station without hearing that damned Kristi Noem ad and I swear to god if I see her stupid face in a movie marathon commercial break tomorrow…

I was raised Catholic and certainly am not one anymore, but Christmas is still nice because we have not come up with an alternative “put tiny lights on everything” holiday.
