Het Al Arish Hospital is een van de vele ziekenhuizen in Egypte waar patiënten uit Gaza worden opgevangen. Deze zorg staat onder hoge druk. Nederland steunt Egypte hierbij met €2 miljoen voor medische goederen via de WHO, als onderdeel van een medisch steunpakket voor Gaza. 1/2

Het is onacceptabel dat Israël veilige, ongehinderde hulpverlening in Gaza nog steeds onvoldoende faciliteert. Egypte speelt een sleutelrol bij de aanlevering van hulpgoederen. Ik besprak ontwikkelingen en knelpunten bij de Rafah border en een logistiek centrum van de Egyptische Rode Halve Maan.

I welcomed Egypt's unwavering mediating efforts - to end the catastrophic situation in Gaza, get the hostages out, and achieve a lasting solution. It is encouraging that Israel and Hamas have now started negotiations here in Egypt. All of our efforts should be aimed at this. 2/3

Egypt is a key strategic partner in a volatile region. In #Cairo, I met with my colleague Badr Abdelatty to discuss our strong cooperation and peace efforts for Gaza. The Netherlands will join as one of the co-hosts of a Gaza reconstruction conference organised by Egypt. 1/3

Vandaag staan we stil bij de terroristische aanval van Hamas op Israël op 7 oktober.

Ik leef intens mee met alle families die iemand zijn verloren op deze vreselijke dag. Met alle mensen die op brute wijze door Hamas zijn ontvoerd. Sommigen van hen worden al twee jaar vastgehouden. Zij moeten onmiddellijk worden vrijgelaten.

Ik hoop dat het plan van president Trump een einde zal maken aan de oorlog die hierop volgde, die zoveel leed en verlies heeft veroorzaakt.

Today, we remember the heinous October 7 Hamas terrorist attack against Israel.

I feel deeply for the families who lost loved ones on this dreadful day. For the people who were brutally taken hostage by Hamas - some of whom remain in captivity still, two years later. They must be released immediately.

I hope the plan presented by President Trump will bring an end to the war that followed and that caused such immense suffering and loss of life.
