Let’s commemorate the freedom fighter with a line of poetry she wrote in 1964:

Freedom is without a price,
yet within bounds my life lies.
Shattered jade is what I will to be,
offered to China as a sacrifice !

#OTD In 1968, Lin Zhao, the 36-year-old political dissident, was sentenced to death and executed on the same day. She was one of the most significant resistance figures in the Mao era, and her critique of totalitarianism is still highly valuable today. #LinZhao

It was not until after 1980 that he was exonerated and began to rebuild his life.

These valuable historical records come from "Return from Purgatory", the autobiography of Xiang Chengjian, a key contributor to "Sparks" magazine.

Silenced No More: In 1957, he was labeled a Rightist and sent to work, experiencing the Great Famine, witnessing the deaths of innocent people. In 1962, he was sentenced to 18 years for "counter-revolutionary crimes" due to the “Sparks” case, enduring China's version of the "Gulag".

#OTD In 1989, former CCP General Secretary Hu Yaobang, who supported reforms, passed away. His death, along with the subsequent spontaneous memorial activities by the public, became the spark that ignited the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989. #HuYaobang
