🌦️ Between Hollow Knight's siblings and Cult of the Lamb's bishops we seem to have a bias for divinely cursed god-siblings with family trauma (who we can then write angsty fanfic about how they just talk everything out and cry)

There is no way to moderate behavior between groups in this way that does not involve giving trust to a third party and trusting them to be neutral and fair in their judgment

I have to believe in the project of a unified state because relying solely on social cohesion/acceptance is terribly fragile. I've seen it personally

It gets exacerbated by technologies allowing for communication in ways no person is fully equipped to process

It perpetuates a distrust of the state even if it is actually trying to build better systems

People only trust the state if they feel they have familial connection, which to them means becoming the boot and being able to take a slice of the pie

Terrible terrible culture of just. Keeping your head down and not bothering with wider society, as long as you and your family can sustain/get ahead

Feeds into the specific Asian racism of "we (in-group) are united in being superior to them (out-group)" in the worst ways possible

The worst crime committed by Filipino politicians immediately in the post-colonial period was to establish a culture of continuously blaming the previous administration even if the issue itself is far removed from anything the previous admin actually did

There's a kind of background cultural assumption like, oh if you aren't participating in the same pop cultural moments as us then you really aren't of the same people as we are, because our past history was lost

Not a fan of it, like I'm constantly trying to prove/reassert my cultural identity
