I know there's a bit of irony in me saying this seeing as I am a Tumblr user but there's actually been a huge problem with media literacy in general. If your question isn't spelled out on screen it's a bad movie. If the thesis isn't written in one clear sentence it's a bad book. Etc. It's so sad :(

But seriously. I don't think it's just a Tumblr issue. Every website has people who either don't understand or intentionally misinterpret your words in a way that makes you look bad. The same thing happens with YouTube & Tiktok comments & on Twitter. Here too
