So. I am on a book-buying ban for 2025, so I am going to make a screenshot list here of everything I’m tempted by. I have a few pre-orders coming, but no subscriptions, though I am open to swapsies and arcs (😂). I’m a slow reader and have a backlog so let’s see.
Is A River Alive by Robert Macfarlane. Jorie Graham says on Twitter: Best book l've read in decades... I don't actually know when I've read something this exciting & moving & brilliantly comprehensive & mind altering. Thank you (that’s all in the image as well as the book)

Can't wait till we see it on Saturday. I hope everything goes really well.

In that same thread: our spring Cross-Reference class at the Metro Library Council will either be about (1) the aesthetics + politics of small formats or (2) a capacious, cross-disciplinary exploration of “search + discovery” — from exploration to web search to the scavenger hunt as method :)

Yes! And this is in part why I've long wanted to teach a class on small media — because compression presents interesting technical, epistemological + ontological challenges; because small stuff creates aesthetic possibilities + allows for 😈 distribution... (👇 from a course pitch deck :)
A slide reading: "a hypothetical class on miniature media might involve... microfilm/fiche, compression formats, abstracts, small-gauge film, flyers, microscripts, clippings libraries, jingles, miniature books, members, tombstones, gem collections, wall labels, sonic logos, microcinema, stickers, architectural models; Photo depicting people working on a microfiche reader
