I saw a post earlier that said there's a protest organised for outside the US embassy tomorrow. It used the AusPol hashtag, so should be searchable.

Absolutely heartbreaking, and fury inducing.

What about continuing an argument from the previous day? Is that allowed? If not, by what time must arguing cease?

The co-payment they're talking is all kinds of fucked, and will end up causing more medical issues. Can't afford to pay someone for assistance with showering? End up with skin infections.

I completely agree with you (& grew up in Qld, so have experienced it first hand), but was saying it won't happen because those in power (whichever flavour they might be) won't let it happen because it's not in their interest.

How are you going to convince young people to be doctors and nurses? Or doctors to go into general practice rather than a specialty that pays much better? By 2033, we're going to be short over 5500 GPs. That's less than 8 years from now. How are you going to train enough doctors in that time?

I've had this argument with a few people regarding a few social programs. Even if you don't give a shit about people, and you look at it purely from an economic outcomes perspective, the benefit cost ratio makes it worthwhile.

What's your answer? Kill us all of when we hit a certain age or level of infirmity?
September 21, 2025 at 9:19 AM
Dude, we can't train enough healthcare staff to meet our needs because we have an ageing population, hence immigration. Also, if we don't have immigration, who is going to:
a. Staff the services we need and
b. Pay the taxes that the country needs to provide services once we're retired?

and 40% of Australia's nurses were born overseas, but don't spoil their argument with facts.
