Life balancing on a morning walk. Apparently standing on one leg is good for the constitution, so these geese have got that. #balance

What are genes and chromosomes? The depth of eyes, the strength of bones, a glint of hair, a breadth of smile, patterns stretching mile on mile, to give our thoughts and beings homes. 24.11.14 #smallpoem

Sometimes when words keep to themselves, I like to wrap them up as well, in something warm or else just light, and so we’re drawn together right. 17.11.14 #smallpoem

A lovely lake to imagine leaping, at Victoria Park today

Being at one would mean
No more feeling in-between
A sense of presence in the now
Of course with time to wonder how
And somewhere calm to rest a while,
Before the next day sends a trial
Feeling at one would mean
Jumping a lake, clearing it clean. 5.11.14

Treading water to stay afloat,
Wondering why I have no note
Of bass or pitch to keep me level
In the ways I used to revel,
But now I feel the need to settle
Somewhere I can test my mettle
And see the pieces slot together
For my happiness with whatever. 29.9.14

England to Scotland, Have us Scots please! Without you we’d crumble and fall to our knees, losing the glory of hills, glens and lochs, of fiery hair and fleeting fox, a depth of culture so ancient and strong, and passionate people we’ve loved so long, keep us please, to brave our high seas. 18.9.14

I love my child, can’t say how much, but more than pages piled, up to the sun and such, and past the Milky Way, before the light of any day, started to reach us here, before stars twinkled and appeared, more than skies need to wrap the world, and more than my life unfurled. (17.09.14)

Mummy why are you on the phone?
I’m having my dinner, leave it alone!
Or better still give it to me,
I know how to use it as well you see,
I can make the pictures wobble with crosses
And send nice messages to all your bosses,
I can call all the people you never call,
Believe me I can have a ball.

It annoys me so much that X deactivated my account, with the poetry on it that I wrote as a new mum in 2014-15, to no critical acclaim, so I’m going to post some of them. This has cropped up because I was ‘commissioned’ to write a poem for my brother’s wedding this month.
