Antimicrobial resistance is the ability of germs to evade the treatment effects of antimicrobial drugs.

This JAMA Patient Page describes antimicrobial resistance, its risk factors, and how to decrease the spread of antibiotic resistance.

Info sheet: "Antimicrobial resistance occurs when germs evade drug treatments." Risk factors include antibiotics, catheters, hospitalization, weakened immunity, age, and chronic conditions. Reduce resistance by avoiding overuse, washing hands, and getting vaccinated.

Thank you for this case example on the potential utility of inflammatory makers to rule in / rule out bacteremia and by extension being used for antibiotic decision making (ie stewardship intervention). They are not perfect and the results should be interpreted in context. Not hard and fast rules.
