Research completed at the university of Illinois, and the Beckman institute, funded by the University of Illinois, published by a German publishing company. States that religious coping is a form of cognitive reappraisal under a different name.
Religiosity and Resilience: Cognitive Reappraisal and Coping Self-Efficacy Mediate the Link between Religious Coping and Well-Being
Qualitative evidence points to the engagement of religious coping strategies when facing adversity, and evidence also highlights the effectiveness of cognitive reappraisal in reducing the impact of di...

So this becomes a discussion about revising diagnostic standards to include religion as a disorder? A majority of humanity is religious. Would there be a point in the classification if the disorder is still "the norm" and not causing most people distress/daily dysfunction?
June 15, 2025 at 5:35 PM
I know this wasn't directed at me. I do think religious abuse needs to be discussed more, but faith itself shouldn't be outright banned.
June 15, 2025 at 5:14 PM
And yet other research has shown religious people tend to be more content, less anxious, less depressed and more resilient during crises, probably because they believe God is in control or because they rely on certain values for strength and perspective. I have yet to meet an anxious Buddhist.

Some faiths share similarities with the family of psychotic disorders (delusions mostly), but are not classified as such because there's more criteria to a diagnosis for psychological disorders than just delusional thinking.

What I find discouraging is the fact that even an assassination with a very pointed "STOP KILLING PEOPLE BY PROXY ASSHOLES" message didn't get the affluent to *think* about why it happened. At this point, they are so removed they can't even be forced to look anymore.
June 15, 2025 at 4:54 PM
But why would you need to know that? You've got what you need from the mines.
That's the mentality of industry CEOS. They've got what they need from the sea of human blood being spilled to keep the shareholders happy. Why would they consider the impact when they haven't been forced to?
June 15, 2025 at 4:52 PM
Affluence has the habit of padding people from the lived reality of the less affluent. We all participate in class blindness to some degree. For example, do you know about the lived experience of lithium miners in the DRC? It ain't pretty.

Psy undergrad here. Delusional religious people are very different from those with schizophrenia and you know it. Different causes, different sources, and someone can have a delusional faith belief and *not* be pathological. You can change your religious delusions. You can only manage schizophrenia.

This is going to get worse. There's a point called the wet bulb temperature where it's so hot and so humid sweat no longer evaporates from the human body to cool it. It was reached for the first time in 2003 in Saudi Arabia and then in 2015 in India. People are gonna die in droves.

Now, the refusal of the GOP to have townhalls makes sense. It allows them to create whatever justifications they need to abandon their responsibilities to the people they represent. It's frustrating because we all know if we showed such complacency in our jobs we'd be unemployed.

Oh no, he is lacking self-awareness for sure. Gas lighting is telling us the price of eggs has gone down to $1.96

The lack of self-awareness is astounding with that turnip.

And even though I hate Trump let's acknowledge that the bird flu has a bigger impact on their prices right now. 2 years from now...different story.
