According to this somewhat outdated graph, data centers accounted for 4.4% of U.S. energy demand in 2022. Not sure what the current numbers are, but we are looking at thousands of gigawatt-hours of production with no consumers to use it. It would probably wreak havoc on the wholesale market.

At this point I’m not even sure leftists themselves are capable of the discipline both personal and political necessary to push back against this carceral, eugenic, and ecocidal paradigm. Hard to maintain revolutionary optimism when I see folks using AI to plan their lunch and not masking.
