(Best case scenario? My GM has to table-rule that I am not allowed to pick up opposing tanks and bash them repeatedly into opposing spell casters. :-D )

I think variations on levitate/TK are the most under-rated abilities in sci-fi/fantasy. Worst case scenario: pick up the big, bad opponent. Now they can't move or turn to face you if you go behind them. You can do whatever you want, and unless they can air-swim, they can't do anything about it.

(Slightly exaggerated: Context suggested "Clavicular" was a proper noun, probably someone's name.)

At first I was embarrassed because I didn't know any of those words except the articles and helping verbs.

Then I looked up those words except the articles and helping verbs.

Now I'm kinda low-key proud that I didn't know any of those words except the articles and helping verbs.

I still need to read @lizdowthwaite.bsky.social's dissertation on crowdfunding webcomics, but from a surface knowledge of both it and your chapter, I would imagine there would be some overlap here. Might at least be worth checking out.

Don't you love it?!?!

Students staying after class to talk to you about the material is good, but students staying after class TO TALK TO EACH OTHER about the material is GOLD! :-D

Once upon a time -- maybe during Clinton 1.2 or Bush 2.1 -- I said political satire was dead because Dan Quail existed: satire couldn't beat the bar of reality.

In retrospect, A) I was WAY too hard on Quail, and B) wasn't THAT a simple, innocent time!!

(I actually knew an Italian academic who kept saying he was going to give it all up and go raise goats in Sardinia. Everyone thought it was a funny exaggeration until the day he quit to go raise goats in Sardinia. :-D )

There are things I do to make the world better, things I do to take care of myself, and things I do because people are willing to pay me to do them. I don't expect much in the way of overlap in them. And if that last category is threatened, I can always go to a different one. :-/

I hope I can chime in, as I'm kind of an outsider here, but...

I've rarely -- almost never -- felt much in the way of despair about my career. Mainly because I don't really have much of a "career" so much as a series of jobs.

Daanng! Wish I'd seen this before rolling out my syllabus this semester! I'm totally stealing this next semester.

Is there for a form of citation/credit you'd prefer for it. :-D

In (almost) any other year, a power outage in mid-January (in the Land of Cleve, no less) would *NOT* threaten anyone's supply of frozen food.

Damn global warming. :-/

This just in: Microsoft and NVidia CEO's both agree "Our products are so great that it would be really awesome if you'd stop calling them crappy."

Oooh! This is a fun one! Obviously, can only think of candidates off the top of my head, but I would think the key questions are: How much originality counts for "authorship?" How much "work" constitutes the "work?" And how much did economic pressures influence this outcome?
January 12, 2026 at 4:16 PM
Yeah, I thought of Caxton, too, but I think the question presupposes "full works," and most of Caxton's works were translations or antiquitites.

I was about to ask the same! I was thinking it might just be the C-Bus locations...
