So many books again just became available from the library at the same time. I find the character limit in my posts to be, well, too limiting for this type of book tracking and will not be continuing this experiment in 2026z

Jane is a changeling living in a cyberpunk fae realm, which is so much weirder than you’re imagining. An iron dragon helps her escape a life of child labor & she goes to high school/college. It lost me when she was able to contact her mom in the human world by masturbating, will not read the series.

Next up - The Last One by Rachel Howzell Hall, a fantasy romance, then back to This Way Up. I got a new Kindle for Christmas after 9 years, and it was quite the upgrade from a 2nd or 3rd gen Touch to a Paperwhite.

Spanning 1975-2001, it follows Patch, Saint, & Misty as they cope with the fallout from Misty’s near-kidnapping by a serial killer, thwarted by Patch, & Saint’s lifelong search for the killer. TBH could have been 300 pgs instead of 600, but it was full of twists & deeply human moments.

Next up - revisiting another Martha Wells novel, System Collapse, the latest Murderbot book. I have only a vague memory of reading it the first time so safe to say it wasn’t my favorite in the series but it’s still Murderbot. It’s a direct sequel to the previous book rather than its own thing.

7 people go on a pilgrimage to the planet Hyperion’s Time Tombs. On the journey they each tell their backstory to pass the time. This includes all the people they had sex with for reasons??? The book ends with them singing the Wizard of Oz song as they enter the TT. No plans to finish the series.

Previous couple of books - Mexican Gothic and Hyperion. I liked Mexican Gothic but ended up shelving it for a later time, it wasn’t bad and I do plan to pick it up again. See next post for Hyperion.

Two agents on opposite sides of the time war begin corresponding & gradually fall in love. The book alternates chapters between the agents finding the letters hidden across time & universes, & the letters themselves. We also see a mysterious Seeker trailing them, trying to learn their secrets.

I saw Maggie Stiefvater speak to promote the Raven Boys graphic novel & it was delightful. The format was her speaking to the characters, using the audience reading several envelopes “written” by the characters. She had hilarious props & unexpected backstories. I would see her again!

Obviously it’s hard to condense a big book into a graphic novel but they did a decent job. There were a few joke setups that didn’t include the punchline. I saw the book author speak & she was brutal about editing it down. The illustrations are gorgeous. I recommend reading the full novel first.

Next up - I’m partway through This is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohter and Max Gladstone. I read a sample years ago but it kind of fell off my radar. After that, Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia and then Hyperion by Dan Simmons.

Evie & Trystan continue to try to decipher the prophecy before the evil King Benedict does. A new urgency is brought because Kingsley is becoming less of a magical frog & more of a regular frog. There are betrayals large and small, and a diabolical cliffhanger. The slow burn finally reaches its end.

6 magicians, or medians, are recruited to spend a year vying for 5 spots in a secret society that controls the actual Library of Alexandria. At first they seemed like cliches & stereotypes but they are fleshed out by the end and you care more about their actions & motivations. 1st in a trilogy.
