Just finished marking assessments from Yr10. There’s such clear progress with both knowledge & exam technique. Still work to do but you can see growing confidence in their responses including key vocabulary. I genuinely adore teaching them.

My first set of mocks are marked. We shared the load amongst the dept which has been good but I’m now desperate to see how the rest of the cohort has done.

Finalised the template I’m using for mapping GCSE Business to the revision guide & YouTube videos. It’s a little time consuming but I know it’s going to be beneficial to students when finished.

I’ve done the 2020 paper fully. This is the specimen paper. Really loving doing this!

My current labour of love.

Mapping each paper to the spec, adding revision guide pages & revision videos.

Aim is for students to independently complete the paper with information to help them. Will provide videos for exam technique too.

First paper done, 6 to go & then onto paper 2!

Today I found out that a friend of mine is leaving teaching. Workload & expectations are just too much & it’s impacting on her personal life too much. She’s been teaching 20+ yrs. I’m sad for her & for the students she teaches.

This is happening too much. Retention is a real issue

Organising WEX is one of the best things I’ve ever done in education. It is also one of the most stressful things I have ever done.

Unexpectedly I found out my favourite author had a book released today. Can’t wait for finishing work on Friday & settling down with it & a glass of wine. I love reading & I don’t do even close to enough of it

It’s week A of our two week timetable &, while this week is much busier, I love it because I teach so many Business lessons.

Only thing I hate is that I move classrooms so many times. The mental energy it takes to remember everything you need is exhausting.

Just ordered @katejonesteach.bsky.social new book related to feedback. I have been working on how to provide feedback to students which is meaningful while reducing burden on teachers. Can’t wait for it to arrive & slightly gutted it comes after our long weekend when I could properly dig into it!

I’ve no idea why but my Alexa’s aren’t listening. I’m having to repeat myself multiple times & it’s driving me insane

I have basically slept since I came home from work. Asleep at 4.15pm & I’m ready to go to sleep again.

Feel sick, have a sore throat, itchy eyes….. something tells me I won’t wake up feeling refreshed in the morning.

Used @rcliffe.bsky.social’s good, better, best technique & adapted for my Business classes. Students were really engaged with the task & the quality of their responses improved. Definitely something I will be embedding further

To help manage my injured hip, I have been told I must use a backpack for my work stuff so the weight is more evenly distributed. Really feel it doesn’t match my aesthetic but needs must.

In 51 weeks I am 40. I have decided to challenge myself & do something completely outside my comfort zone. I enter the #GNR2025 & I will be running in memory of my Gran, Dorothy, who passed away from Alzheimer’s in 2021. I hope to raise some money to help find a cure. First training run done.

Just read a comment in my schools social media about an event I organised & it’s made me so happy! The goal of the evening was clearly achieved & it’s was well worth all the hard work. Sometimes it’s easy to forgot the ‘why’!

Currently in NPQSL hell.

If the word count was higher I’d enjoy writing this assignment.

I love this & it’s definitely something I will adapt to fit with what I need.

This is the kind of thing I used to love about Twitter. Professionals sharing ideas to support everyone which I could magpie/adapt after feeling inspired.

Thank you for sharing @rcliffe.bsky.social
Introduced a new exam question style to Year 10 through good, better, best paragraphs. Students had to identify the key features of the paragraph and then explain which one was the best and why, before writing the next paragraph for the question independently/ withscaffolds ✍️

The customer in me has has decided I will not be buying from ASOS again as I’m not paying for returns based on their crap & inaccurate descriptions & sizing.

The Business teacher in me absolutely knows this is going to make an amazing lesson in the not to distant future!

Swings & roundabouts!

Reflecting on today: I’ve had some really good passing chats with students. Some banter in the corridors. Some chats about how well Sunderland are doing. Some excited waves.

Sometimes it’s really easy to get bogged down in the bad or the workload but these things are what makes the job special!

Taught my first Child Development lesson today.

Genuinely was quite nervous even though it was an introduction lesson. Felt it went well & looking forward to teaching the group moving forward.
