Sounds like a longshot given it is literally in the state constitution, but hey, more power to them.

The point being, these are the people who can afford to be state legislators when you don't pay them at all to do the important work of governing a state of 1.4 million people.

You may notice that that article mentions she was also chair of the new committee to oversee "charitable gaming" in the state, while her and her husband were one of the largest casino owners.

The only reason I can do it is because I happen to have a career where I work from home, my parents are nearby and comfortably retired to help with the kids, and can car pool to the capital most of the time.
As long as anyone else can do that, then they could too.

During my first term, we tried to put forth an amendment to raise our pay from $100 to something like $5000. It was shot down.
