If the pattern is the issue I'm also a big fan of the Winwick mum free beginner sock pattern

It is! It's not as tricky as I thought it would be but I have noticed it looks more pronounced in some colours more than others

Oh wow! Those look great. I may have to buy some more and do the same thing

This is the Winwick mum beginner sock pattern (very reliable, it's my go to for vanilla socks). The yarn is Robin by west yorkshire spinners.

I've altered the heel pattern slightly to do an eye of partridge heel which gives it a diamond pattern

I actually really like it, I'm also wearing my socks I knitted in their Mallard yarn a few years back. They wash well, the heel is nicely felted slightly to give it that extra strength. I really rate West Yorkshire spinners yarn.

That colour really suits you. I wouldn't have guessed that was only your second ever hat!

That is the worst. It's a lovely looking sock so far though ❤️

It's worth noting as well that this pattern recommends a magic loop. Its been easy to adapt it for Dpns. For the short row heel section, knit to 1 stitch before the end of the second needle (15 stitches in) then wrap the stitch.
