That's the perception but it's not true. Getting into Harvard has somehow become the bar, it's crazy.That mentality carries into the workplace. That's my point about everything being competitive. In California there are great state schools with a 90% acceptance rate and decent in-state tuition.

This is a really good article but I have an issue with the underlying assumption that academics should be competitive. It would be great to have mixed competition for sure but why do we treat education as a competition at all?
