Vancouver Island grandma & small-l liberal. Never thought my country’s survival would be threatened by our nearest neighbour.
Personally I prefer print, but I know people with dyslexia who much prefer video, and I can’t fault anyone for choosing the medium which gives them the best access to information.

I agree! I was surprised to learn that the Obamas sent their kids to private schools while our Conservative prime minister sent his kids to the local public school. It may be a difference of pubic school funding but who knows?

On a Canadian scale, I think Obama would be considered centre-right. He couldn’t do everything on the Democratic wish list, so he championed health care and got it through. I know there were lots of other issues, but that one changed many American lives for the better.

Here in Canada, parental leave entitlement is up to 18 months, with 12 paid months, and job protection. Similar or better in most of Europe. US policies seem brutal.

Ever since I struggled with excruciating pain from my own bleeding nipples 38 years ago, I have given lanolin cream at every baby shower. I fully support breastfeeding but it’s not always possible or practical, and these men have no clue.

I think some Canadian jurisdictions do have SLAPP laws, but not, to my knowledge, Alberta.

Worse, I think, because while 12 year olds may be ignorant, they’re rarely so malicious.

Maybe to avoid a pile-on from a bazillion bots, whether they represent scams or political opponents? Even in my little neighbourhood fb group, we have to avoid certain words to avoid being inundated.

Love it!

In French it means delayed. If you’re running late, you’re “en retard”. It actually meant the same in English before it was turned into an insult - eg artists can buy retarder to slow down drying time for paint.

Until somebody accidentally adds a journo into the chat…then oopsie!

Yeah, I’m pretty sure progressive conservatives would be labeled “radical left lunatics” in trumpland.

My phone # was once on a refugee fundraising poster. A guy called to berate me for supporting foreigners when so many Canadians were suffering. I told him I was also taking donations for the local soup kitchen if he preferred and (shocker) he hung up on me.

Dentistry is still in the private sector here, although there are programs to cover lower incomes and many employers provide dental insurance coverage.

I think the new pay model made a huge difference. I can see it in my own physician, who seems much less stressed. She is super conscientious, but clearly it was challenging when so much of what she did was not compensated.

As a Canadian, I’ve been surprised and disappointed by the silence of Americans in the face of Trump’s imperialist threats. But then, I think, they’ve already been conquered by this monster- is that not worse than “might be conquered”? Elbows up!

Well that about sums it up.

History isn’t over yet. They’re winning right now but people are pushing back. We need to keep the pressure on.

I also see some specialty stores morphing into dept. stores, like London Drugs, Canadian Tire, Superstore…

I noticed the signs - low inventory, poorly staffed, few customers. It’s sad to lose a Canadian icon.

Bravo! I’m sure this represents a significant financial sacrifice and I really appreciate the solidarity.
