Blurring the lines between the landscapes of Folk Horror, Hauntology and the Urban Wyrd. Taking in films, literature, music, art and performance.
Fascinating take on the lore of witchcraft and passing down of the raft through birth.

There's a bizarre scene in this film where the characters hide from a passing helicopter. It is set in 1973 but relates to a 'hidden' community who've remained in the embrace of the 1700s. Perhaps a not so subtle methaphor that the more we move forward the less we actually progress? Possibly.

Season 2 on its way. Brilliant comedy with the amazing Bridget Christie embracing folklore and standing up to toxic masculinity, urbanisation and the menopause. Soundtrack has Stick in the Wheel and Angeline Morrison too.

Just arrived and the chapters look promising. Will get my nose into this later today.

Horrifying Children - edited by Lauren Stephenson, Robert Edgar & John Marland.

Horrifying Children examines weird and eerie children’s television and literature via critical analysis, memoir and autoethnography. There has been an explosion of interest in the impact of children’s television and literature of the late twentieth century.

Interesting story on Sunday Brunch about Phillip Stone (The Caretaker in The Shining). Andy Nymam (Ghost Stories) received a rather sad letter from Stone thinking that his character 'Delbert Grady' would lead to more opportunities or get more recognition which sadly didn't happen.

For those looking for a dramatisation of The Black Monk of Pontefract story, this is presently on Amazon Prime. Some scenes may have been hugely exaggerated for dramatic effect. Based on a 'true' story.

Dark Match brings us the 1980s small time wrestling scene where a high paycheck convinces a troupe to fight in the back waters of the US.
It isn't long before they realise that each match is part of a ritual summoning based around air, water, earth and fire. Daft fun.

The window display of Enki in King's Heath made me happy today. This world is dragging me down, so little nuggets of joy are much welcome.

Weird Fiction Quarterly did a Folk Horror special. Around 60
short stories and poems with assorted
connections to Folk Horror.

Rather than tie the term down to a restrictive set
of schema it allows each author to play as widely
with the concept as possible.

Something disturbs me about the net curtain position on the bedroom window on this normal looking house in Enfield. 😉😉

I know little about Hardy's work as I always preferred the comic stylings of Stan Laurel instead. *cough*

Saying that though, he has a quality moo-stash and this largely academic evaluation of some of his work through the lens of Folk Horror looks tasty and just what I need.

Mulholland Drive genuinely freaked me out to the point I had to watch it repeatedly to make sure I understood it fully.

It's going to be difficult to see this being beaten as album of the year and yes it is only the first two weeks of January. Perverts. Absolutely bowel-realisingly scary.

Another quality release by Library of the Occult. Blissed out ambient electronics and enchanting folk from Ivy Chalice who "invokes the duality of dreams and nightmares". This track especially is fifteen minutes of wavering synths reminiscent of Goblin at their more mellow times.

Facebook placed restrictions on my account for one month for celebrating the death of a French fascist. It is becoming very worrying just how manipulated social media has become of late. Blue sky may have to be my choice for the future. Here's a Robin Redbreast. X
