Period instrument recordings can be transporting in ways that modern instruments are unable to achieve.
Especially the fortepiano. It's like being in the salon with the wigs.

Excellent! Schiff is amazing. His versatility never ceases to amaze me.
Note: Bilson was the pioneer of the modern fortepiano performances and recordings.

I'm generally a Bach as background music listener, so they all sound fine to me. Hewitt is an expert. Barenboim is supremely talented.
I think you should do just fine with this "quieter" recording.
btw, Jarrett says that farting is just a part of improvising (the best part).

Saw them open-air
The show opened with Forward March--all band members entering the pavilion from the rear, each playing a quasi-marching band instrument, giving it that off-kilter weirdness that opens the album. All I can say is that to see it live was hilarious and thrilling
