It was great hearing what our fellow Home Nationers thought of the madness at Hampden. Wonderful episode. Barca Jim is right: no analysis it’s just pure vibes.

The new builds to the right(which have been there all my life) have fooled me into thinking it was facing south! In any case, a brilliant photo.

Some of my mum’s grandparents were from the Grassmarket originally but by then they’d moved to the West Port / Bread Street.

I think, based on the fact this looks like a right corner onto a left, it’s the end of Kings Stables Road below Grannies Green, looking south.

The reforms in the bill permit fire and rehire where there is a question as to the continuing financial viability of the company. If the company is at floral of bankruptcy then fire and rehire can still be used. It’s not a total ban.

It was never the War Department. The Department of War up to 1947 handled the US Army and the Air Corps. A separate Department of the Navy handled the Navy. The Defense Department was a new entity replacing the previous set up. To rename it isn’t going back - that’s just cover for his sentiments.

Monty’s biggest failure wasn’t Market Garden itself but not prioritising clearing the Scheldt estuary and opening the port of Antwerp.

I think this ignores the legislation his government is bringing forward. That takes time but it will change the system more broadly. The lack of broad narrative is an issue but we had a lot of vision from others and not much done. Might be worth revisiting in 2 years time.

I enjoyed the article. It opens up an interesting question as to whether you can separate questions of reform of Scottish institutions outwith independence. A lot of talk of reform in Scotland is framed around ‘yes, but after independence’. Can that be broken to get necessary change? Not so sure.
