You can fix it in either Windows or Linux. I prefer fixing it Linux, but it's relatively easy on either side - it's either a terminal command or a registry key.

I'm not sure if you actually use the web search in Windows, but just chiming in to let you know it can be turned off with some Registry tweaks, no official option unfortunately. That way you should get installed apps more reliably.
