This sweetheart!! When I had my daughter, it was RIGHT before NL came out. I was incredibly isolated, lost my whole friend group because now I had an infant n nobody wanted to deal with that. My NL starter townies ended up meaning so much to me, n she's stayed in my town TO THIS DAY (the only one!)

My daughter really wanted to carve her own pumpkin this year n I think she did an admirable job; even friends who didn't play silksong immediately recognized it as one of the fleas! This is the first year that she has carved a pumpkin with 0 assistance; the only help that I provided was cleanup, etc

5. Plateau
Risus fanned the deck of cards out in front of him. With a flick of his wrist, he collapsed the deck back into his palm. Faster than the eyes around him, he flicked the front of the deck with his other hand, and it vanished without a trace. Another flick, and the card the audience member had selected reappeared. A child in the audience let out a loud, blubbering sob, overpowering any murmurs of approval or amazement that could, theoretically at least, have been heard from the audience. The Garlean man played it off, some comment about how the child was just too stunned by the magic to resist crying out...but the crowd dispersed all the same. His shoulders slumped when everybody was out of sight, wondering again why he even bothered with street shows. If he'd learned anything during his years in Kugane, it was that his stage magic paled in comparison to almost anything that an actual magic practitioner could pull off. Nearly seven years and the best he could muster was a handful of vaguely curious bystanders. Something needs to change, he mused. But what?

4. Silk Song ( :D happy release day!)
Miziutte had grown use to people telling her they wanted to kill her pet. This time was no different. "I just can't understand why you keep that-- that THING in the house!" he'd said, having jumped back so fast from the terrarium that he knocked over a coat rack. "And to have it in the common living quarters?!" The blond man somehow had never seen her pet tarantula, despite having lived in the same Free Company lodgings for nearly eight years. Granted, she rarely took the terrarium into the common area...and to any who had wondered why, they now had their answer. The Elezen smiled softly at the delicate creature inside the glass case. While unnamed, she had a great fondness for the spider that she'd brought home from her trip through the Sea of Clouds. They were known to spin sail-like webs and soar across the Sea like birds, using the wind to take them wherever it would. While wind widows were poisonous, it wasn't as if she HANDLED the spider. After all, the thing was delicate! One wrong move would crush the poor dear! She'd only risked taking it out into the commons to pinch from one of the houseplants, hoping to give it a fresher bit of foliage to run around under. She'd not even thought for a moment that somebody would insinuate that she should kill it, though she'd fully expected to be told to keep it in her room, as she always had. "Don't worry," she cooed at the spider, "He wouldn't know beauty if it bit him," she reassured. Taking it back to her room, she mused about how the lad could have such a problem with such a tiny spider...if only he'd seen the giant ones that lived under his bed, surely this little one wouldn't scare him nearly as much.

3. Frost
Dove never really found herself ready for autumn. With the long hours that she put into tending her garden, there was always a somber moment of acceptance when the leaves began to change color for the first time each year. It wasn't as if she disliked autumn, no. Some of her favorite foods would ripen, big vibrant gourds and delicate spices. Some who knew her would guess that autumn was even her favorite season, the way that she would throw herself at events like fairs and carving competitions, how she'd leave her whole neighborhood smelling delicious as she baked up her final harvest of the year. But that first frost. The first day that the temperature dropped low enough that her morning walk was greeted with the crunch of frozen dew on the grass. She had half a frown as she ran her fingers over the leaves of a bush, smushing the gathered ice between her fingers. Dove could see her breath this morning, she realized, letting out an experimental puff of air. A deep inhale, a resigned exhale, and she found herself moving on from the moment of sadness and into a moment of mental inventory. Exactly how much sugar was already in the pantry...? Pumpkin bread would be a lovely thing to surprise her friends with that afternoon, after all.

2. Doppelganger
M'iksa shivered. Everybody knew that there was nothing for an adult to fear on All Saint's Wake. There was increased supervision by the Wood Wailers on account of all of the costumed folk, and with so many children about, he could count on at least half a dozen naggy old birds to be watching them like hawks. It didn't make him feel any better, though, while he followed his daughter through the crowds. Zantgeim skipped happily ahead of him, her short tail bobbing in time with her fake wings. "I want to be an Ahriman!" she had insisted, and while he'd done his level best, he was unsure if the costume really gave that impression. Two small yellow wings made out of cardpaper, and a large eye painted on her well-worn shirt...well, he'd never claimed to be a tailor, after all. Hearing movement behind him, M'iksa jumped a little as Zantgeim tugged at the back of his shirt, "Can we go to the carnival next, pa?" Her eyes shone with an unrelenting, sugar-fueled passion, "I promise I'll be good!" The child nearly vibrated with excitement. "Of course, we c--" and M'iksa paused. "We. We just came out of the carnival... Zant, honey," he knelt down "Are you saying you would like to go again, tomorrow night, or--" "Pa?" A voice behind him left him wrenching his neck around, staring back at Zantgeim, looking at him with a puzzled expression. "Pa, who are you talking to?" she giggled, "We already planned to come back tomorrow night! And the night after! And--" "AND THE NIGHT AFTER!!" M'iksa nearly jumped out of his skin as the voice came cackling next to his ears, directly behind his head. He stumbled trying to stand from his kneeling position, hitting the ground hard as he frantically looked around for the second Zantgeim. "That was really funny!" his daughter continued to laugh as his eyes darted around, "You're acting like you saw a real life ghost or something! You're such a good actor, Pa, I really believed you were scared!"

1. Broken Leaf
Ardent Dove scowled at the bent and bruised foliage in her garden. She wasn't one to rely on artificial means to scare animals away from her vegetables, and so she was use to the occasional handful of lost carrots and the like...but this? This was something she hadn't seen in ages. It almost looked like a dhalmel had pranced through the whole area, leaving huge clumps of grass compressed. Stems on her tomatoes were broken, and even her trees had the telltale signs that something had been scratching at them. No sooner did she resign herself to an evening buried in a tome to try and track down the culprit did the culprit reveal itself. Daoko came around the corner, nearly swinging around the garden's gate, "Oh good, you're home!! I needed to talk to you, when I was over here earlier--" and she motioned back at her ill-tempered hound, sheepishly lolling about on the stairs leading away from her property. Everything clicked. Dove pinched between her eyes. It was hard to get mad at an animal, and she reminded herself where the ire should really be pointed. "I'm not even going to ask. Just. Keep him out of here next time." She waved the two off, both slinking off with obvious embarrassment as they ran back down the steps.
