This is often only the case for "newer" stadiums; remember many stadiums over about 30 years old don't have any sponsorship!

Yes, it would be interesting and also by other demographics. Certainly around where I am the coffee shops, cafes, garden centres, pubs etc seem to be sustained by the "silver pound" either directly or supporting children / grandchildren.

Yes, I'm also aware my particular town may not be representative of the nation given it's in the commuter belt of both Bristol and Bath, plus is seeing population growth through new housing.

I've worked from home for almost a decade now and basically crave the social interaction - or even just being round people - that working in a cafe enables. The fact it helps local businesses, at a time of the week when they are generally less busy, is an added bonus.

On average, UK households save about 10% of income. Pre-pandemic this was closer to 5%, indicating at least some have spare cash.

Coffee shops / casual dining are still a growth area, at least in my area. In just under a decade, the number of such establishments on Keynsham High Street has more than doubled (interestingly all independents) and judging by queues out of the door of all this weekend, there remains unmet demand.

Working from home almost full-time, I'm making a conscious effort to spend one afternoon a week working from a coffee shop. Generally the coffee shops have space - so happy for the custom - but I'm aware I'm in a fortunate position. Although on the weekend all the coffee shops are rammed!

Not that far away from some of the historic subsidies (RO etc) starting to expire, plus increasing demand will result in the per unit costs of subsidies such as FiT declining.

There is a significant amount of inertia, plus when was the media ever honest with the truth? Plus the minor benefit of a few solar farms - and even offshore wind - could be completely overwhelmed in swings in wholesale gas prices.

Being at the beginning of middle aged, I can attest to the fact that having children gives / forces opportunities for widening social circles!

You responded to my comment on the building of Navitus - a project almost 1GW in size - by commenting on your percentage hence my query. I accept at present SW-England is only a small percentage of total GB wind capacity.
December 26, 2025 at 9:23 AM
Where has the reference to less than 1% of GB wind come from? Navitus was almost 1GW, so close to 4% of capacity AND located in a geographically favourable location.

Also shows why there should be more wind in SW England / Wales. Conditions like this really show the value of the Navitus Bay scheme which unfortunately was rejected due to the potential impact on views of retirees in Bournemouth.

There are sites in Cornwall already 30+ years and still producing well.

Although at a time of a housing crisis, it should be argued high density housing on a generally well connected, brownfield site with amenities within walking distance is an absolute no brainer.

See Bristol Sport - Football, rugby, basketball and motor racing. Although in that case it has led to arguments of distractions and spreading resources too thin. Bristol City Women recently getting outside investment. Ground - main asset of Bristol Sport - has higher usage as shared across sports.

Good news, although I guess they won't get up as far as Bristol?

8kW? That's 1kW per panel?

Frustratingly this doesn't appear to be on YT Music/Podcasts or Deezer. Any plans to add to these?

Or even the actual evidence of 20+ year old offshore wind farms in UK (30+ years onshore) - and even longer in Denmark etc!
