Lots of people seeing Northern Lights tonight.

Woke up to first snow of the season this morning. Big fluffy flakes like popcorn.

My grandmother Emma's Christmas Cactus is alive and thriving in my home, 70 years after her death.

It blooms from roughly Thanksgiving to Easter each year (and is starting just a little early this year).

I just went outside to see the "supermoon" and it is amazingly, stupendously, incredibly, overwhelmingly 7% larger than average.

Glad I didn't miss it.

3100 citations to my academic writing, as tabulated by Google Scholar. The h-index is also pretty good, for my field.

I have four papers with over 300 citations and the top paper is over 1050.

Today is the 35th Native American Day in South Dakota, created in 1990 in the spirit of reconciliation and reflecting the importance of tribal nations in our state.

That was before almost anybody else had an "Indigenous Peoples Day."

General consumers use ChatGPT most for practical guidance, seeking information and writing, in that order, but for business users, writing jumps to the top.

It's kind of a logn read, but intersting. For more, click the link, not the image.

There are also what appear to be some ancient artifacts, shaped vaguely like aircraft, which Ancient Astronaut theorists love to talk about. Looks like a jet fighter, doesn't it?

Redheaded Woodpecker on an old stump. When we hear them "pecking" we always hope it is a tree, not a building.

Note that the biggest difference in the new Cracker Barrel logo is that they removed the old white guy who used to be on the left.

It is more complex than this, Jörg. The clock is based on Felix the Cat, which was used in the first tests of the American TV system. So it aligns with the reference to John Logie Baird, which was a TV pioneer in Scotland.

Today is the anniversary of the splashdown of Apollo 13 after the service module explosion that threatened the lives of the crew.

I have been looking through my old family slides and I apparently took photos of the TV screen during #Apollo13. I believe this is after they were safe back on Earth.

I rebuilt the box that holds our salt block for deer. Some of them are REAL skitterish about the new one.

The old one lasted maybe 20 years, so generations of their ancestors knew the old, weathered one. They are used to licking the wood, not just the salt block, and this one doesn't taste right.

We had a visit from twin fawns this morning, and their mom, of course.

Google Scholar deleted 59 of my citations on July 13 without notice or explanation, so for the second time this year, I am pleased to announce that I have reached 3,000 citations to my scholarly publications.
