“… the US military is preferable to the ICE Gestapo”

An unimaginable sentence. How have you guys not impeached him yet?

Your take is missing a piece. If you don’t negotiate with them, you guarantee no market access.

Everyone in Ottawa understands what’s happening here, but our BATNA sucks. Always look for the BATNA.

I want to know where this guy is from because nobody from a cold climate falls like that
January 11, 2026 at 11:48 PM
This is a fair point, but what if they ever succeed? This restricts western ability to react to it.

Not to mention China/Taiwan
January 4, 2026 at 2:13 PM
Either (1) they ignore that rule and make it clear they don’t respect international law or (2) they release Maduro.

An unforced lose-lose scenario.

I guess we’ll see how a judge will handle the fact that this dude has immunity as president of a foreign state. Fun.
January 3, 2026 at 3:26 PM
Canada has to respond in coordination with the Europeans. Joint statements are stronger
January 3, 2026 at 3:14 PM
Nobody will hold them to account. That’s the problem.

International law only works as long as the players act like it’s real. The system was written (and mostly enforced) by the USA.

If America ignores that system, then the guardrails are off and nobody else has to follow the rules either
January 3, 2026 at 2:57 PM
Sorry, illegal under international law.

The issue is that China could invade Taiwan under the same pretense and that Russia can hold it against Ukraine in any peace negotiations.

If America won’t follow those rules, why should anyone else?
January 3, 2026 at 2:49 PM
Any word on how overtly illegal this is?
January 3, 2026 at 2:35 PM
The military would almost definitely comply
January 3, 2026 at 2:33 PM
Right?! What are they going to do when they close the case? Release Maduro? Absolutely craziness.
January 3, 2026 at 1:23 PM
It amazes me that this point is lost on people
January 3, 2026 at 1:20 PM
This is awesome. Congrats!! 🤙🏻
December 15, 2025 at 11:53 PM
The problem is that America doesn’t understand it’s giving up the rules based international order. It’ll be gone by the time you guys figure that out
December 15, 2025 at 9:42 PM
I feel seen. My wife is sick of me talking about lol
November 12, 2025 at 12:04 AM
Why would you think Canada’s leader’s don’t see that?

The USA isn’t an autocracy (at least not yet), but it is being unreliable. Canada needs to hedge our bet and diversify our options (Europe, Asia, interprovincial trade), but not throw out the USA. That’s exactly what’s been happening.

“Repetition is key to persuasion”

This is an underrated point. I’d never heard about the MSM before 2015, but they said it enough and now it’s a thing. Dems need to do that stuff too
October 17, 2025 at 1:48 PM
I hope this turns out to be a terrible take. I really hope it does.
September 18, 2025 at 2:29 AM
Why would we want something less capable when we already have a deal inked for the good one?

Switching might be good politics, but it’s bad policy.

This is my take away from your post anyway - you opened my eyes to those pieces. Don’t worry about being perfect at the expense of being right. Thanks for posting.

Job creation stats have almost no relationship to the state of the economy. Wish media would stop using them altogether
