That's about what I would have expected, thank you! Looking forward to reading the other questions!

Well, since you said anything...

Is the creation of a spray shark-repellant, as seen in Batman the Movie (1966), scientifically possible?

In all seriousness, are there any odors that sharks will actively avoid? Would be interesting if they've adapted to avoid oil, for example. Thanks!

Let me be very clear - transparent and rigorous science is not possible under the current administration. Part of the "gold standard" of health research is including a diverse study population - biology is not "one size fits all"!

Had a wonderful time discussing everyone's efforts to better our understanding of precancer biology! See you again, Baltimore!

Looking forward to meeting with colleagues over the next few days in Baltimore!

Roundtable this Wed at the US Senate, on how Trump and Musk are killing research like cancer and Alzheimer’s research.

2:30pm Eastern. There is a livestream.

This would be better in primetime and produced for TV, like the Jan 6 Committee did.
But it’s a good start from @baldwin.senate.gov.
WHEN:

Wednesday, March 26, 2025, 2:30pm EST

WHERE:

SD-106, Livestream available here

WHO:

U.S. Senators
Dr. Monica Bertagnolli, M.D., former Director of the NIH
Dr. Sterling Johnson, PhD, University of Wisconsin-Madison Professor and Associate Director of Wisconsin Alzheimer's Disease Research Center
Dr. Whitney Wharton, PhD, Emory University Associate Professor and Alzheimer’s Disease researcher
Dr. Larry Saltzman, M.D., retired physician living with leukemia and former Executive Research Director for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society
Mr. Jessy Ybarra, veteran living with ALS and Board of Trustees member for the ALS Association

“As Donald Trump and Elon Musk claim they want to ‘Make America Healthy Again,’ they are halting lifesaving research that gives Americans battling Alzheimer’s disease and cancer hope every day that they have a fighting chance at getting better,” said Senator Baldwin.

We'd love to hear from you!!!
One of my reasons? Science helps me balance my brain chemistry so I can study how colon cancer interacts with neighboring healthy tissue, and figure out better ways to kill the cancer without hurting the patient! #storeboughtserotonin #mentalhealthmatters #CRCresearch

WHY DO YOU STAND UP FOR SCIENCE? ☀️

Tell us how science has impacted your life. We’ll share stories with your representatives, from local reps to Capitol Hill—and on our website, so you can use them to advocate too.

This is what we mean when we say cutting NIH funding will cost lives. Cancer patients and their families are having the rug pulled from under them.

A friend drove two hours today for her breast cancer chemotherapy only to learn it was canceled due to NIH cuts. Clinical trial ended midstream. No treatment, no restart, no plan, no information. Her bro-in-law's chemo was also canceled.

The original poster had found out that their training grant supporting their dissertation work was rescinded. The reasoning provided was unrelated to their work. I am unsure why the post was deleted.

This is horrifying. Getting a T32 funded in the first place is an incredible achievement!
mmstangis.bsky.social
Congratulations!!! I'll have to give it a read, love learning about what others are doing with spatial!

We’ve got ideas, but we want to hear from you. What’s worrying you most? What should we do next? How can we grow this movement together?

That definitely should have said "community can" - I was falling asleep as I was typing 🤣 Whoops!

Today was truly incredible. In less than a month, rallies were organized at 30+ sites across our country AND abroad. This is just the beginning - we will continue to advocate for everyone who benefits from our research! @standupforscience.bsky.social

#NCI - how is ‘obesity’ controversial in research and now a flagged term? 👇👇👇
marisakabas.bsky.social
The National Cancer Institute (part of NIH) released new guidelines for "controversial, high-profile or sensitive" keywords that require "review prior to publication" if included in a product or materials.

Keywords include abortion, obesity, and peanut allergies.
Materials produced or authored by NCI staff that address topics that may be controversial, high profile, or sensitive must be sent to the NCI Clearance Team for review prior to publication.

Depending on the nature of the information, additional review and clearance by the NCI director, deputy directors, NIH, and HHS may be required. In some cases, the material will not need further review, but the NCI Clearance Team will share it with NCI leadership, NIH, and/or HHS for their awareness.

Examples of controversial or high-profile topics include, but are not limited to:

Cancer Moonshot
NCI budget
COVID-19
Vaccines
H5N1/bird flu
Opioids ,
Marijuana
Dietary guidelines/ultra-processed foods
Obesity
Stem cell or fetal tissue research
Abortion
Autism
Peanut allergies
Fluoride
Measles
Diversity/equity efforts
Gender ideology
Environmental justice
Discussion of federal policies
Topics of federal investigations
Issues concerning pending legislation
Topics that have received recent attention from Congress
Topics that have received widespread or critical media attention

"Ask a Scientist" type events where we hang out at our local breweries with science enthusiasts and talk about what we do.
Maybe another thing could be working with our local habitat for humanity branches as volunteers - to have a direct positive impact that the commuycam see?

We had one at our site that said "Make the mice transgender again" and I was dying 🤣
