Adirondack Explorer's Zach Matson met us at Black Pond this summer to spend the day w/ a team of #UAlbany researchers who are collecting & analyzing lake mud in the ADKs.

Each meter of sediment represents about 1,000 years of lake history.

We celebrated #UAlbany New Tork State Mesonet's’s 10th Birthday today! 🥳

From one site in Aug. 2015, the Mesonet has grown into the largest & most advanced weather observation network in the U.S.

Mesonet data updates every 5 minutes, helping protect New Yorkers during severe weather.

While most pilots try to avoid flying into severe weather, NOAA’s Hurricane Hunters fly directly into the storm to collect atmospheric data.

A #UAlbany study found these missions significantly increase hurricane forecast accuracy.

Using sediment cores collected from ADK ponds, the research team recently found the region has made a near full recovery from metal pollution since the Clean Air Act.

They were able to analyze concentrations of metals in the samples across 1000s of years.

A new study led by @UAlbany grad researcher Sky Hooler has found Adirondack waters made a 90% recovery from metal pollution since the enactment of the Clean Air Act.

Using lake sediments, she measured concentrations of metals across thousands of years!
