Matthews' lead on Ovechkin continues to shrink, from a high of +27 at the 580-game mark to +9 now (also down from last update's +11).

I like Laughton. He could be a valuable piece this year.

However, trading a 1st for him was an egregious mistake. Treliving had just failed to trade Marner and was looking at losing him for nothing. To give away a key asset for a 4C totally kneecapped TOR from adding an impact player this deadline.

It never ceases to be jarring to me that a 100-year-old Original Six franchise like the Toronto Maple Leafs would hand the keys to their social media presence to someone who wasn’t alive for the Cory Cross OT goal.

Setting aside the hilarity of using +/- in 2025, it goes beyond total points.

Marner always disappeared when the games mattered most (and to a lesser extent, AM & JT).

When you ask for the moon, preventing the team from building depth around you, you better show up when it matters. He failed.

Indeed. Goaltending covered up a lot of possession issues last year, and a very low percentage of goalies go back-to-back with 0.920+ seasons.
