I used to talk bad about old MMOs and stuff like exp penalties and forced grouping. @turboryder.bsky.social got me playing FF11 though and I’ve been having an absolute blast with it. Combat having actual stakes involved really brings it up to a new level and makes it feel like each moment matters.

I think a lot of the problem with snipers is that games don’t give them other roles so it just ends up in sniper duels. They need a secondary role to also fulfill.

For example, Recons in Battlefield autospotting enemies is useful for giving your team information even if you’re not getting kills.

I love the Trust system in FF14. Running dungeons with my favorite best bud NPCs is so good. Adds so much character to a dungeon.

Follower Dungeons in WoW are mechanically superior in every way for leveling. They are competent NPCs and they actually AoE. Couldn’t tell you any of their names tho.

I’ve been working on playing through the entire mainline FF series (and their sequels) lately. Each one gets randomly picked after I complete a game.

My most recent pick has been FF13 and this game is actually kinda good? The hallway simulator part sucks but the combat is fun and I like the cast.
