If my friend hadn't been there to freak out and remind me that murderers and perverts existed I'd be murdered and/or traumatised right now

I'm maybe growing soft in my old age but I truly believe that people can be saved, that people can change and that the basic practicalities of the situation we find ourselves in means we've got to outnumber them
January 22, 2026 at 8:01 PM
I speak from the point of someone who almost lost a family member down the fascist rabbit hole so maybe I'm being too generous but all I know is that we couldve had one more fascist to content with but now we have an ally. Idk I'm drunk lol

It's easy to write off people online as lost causes and you're not by any means obligated to waste energy trying to change them, but what happens when it happens to someone you know? Someone you love? Are you willing to write them off?

If we accept the idea that the people who feel this way are inherently evil we're accepting the idea that deradicalisation isn't an option when it is. Idk they're has to be a route out of this shit, people can change, I believe that truly and deeply
January 22, 2026 at 7:51 PM
I'm not saying these opinions aren't wrong, but in viewing these people as innately and almost "predestined" towards evil we're closing our eyes to just how easily these beliefs spread.
These beliefs are infecting our homes and in believing its inate we're shutting ourselves off from potential cures
January 22, 2026 at 7:48 PM
In our fervent assumption that people who hold these opinions are inherently evil we've maybe closed our eyes to how easily people we know are being radicalised everyday, by the media, by social media, by the economic stress of existing in a country that is desperate to pinpoint a scapegoat
January 22, 2026 at 7:44 PM
I worry that we have blinded ourselves towards the degree to which people are being aggressively and dangerously radicalised, and that this can happen to anyone: including our friends, families and people we grew up with
