Picasso said “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” David somehow never lost his childlike curiosity and creativity. He was an important part of the furry community and a living example of how to unabashedly be your true self. 5/6

Over a billion wearables carry the green light sensor he invented, and his light will continue to shine on through these devices. He was the physician-scientist-entrepreneur that I aspire to be and I am grateful to have been mentored by such a brilliant mind. 4/6

He spent many years as a practicing neonatologist at the bedside taking care of our tiniest patients but made potentially even bigger impacts through his contributions in biomedical lab science and optical-based biosensing. 3/6
