Concepts like “decency” seemed more subjective in comfortable times.

Those times have changed. We appreciate civility and manners now because a culture of #Xiǎorén trolls bombards us daily.

It’s abnormal to roll in shit. We are built to show and require #decency in our communities — here and IRL.

Confucius lived in frightening and chaotic times, similar in many ways to the time we’re entering.

For him, art appreciation was a tool for mental health. Refined brush strokes stand out against a harsh background. Chaos finds us — find deliberate goodness, and spend time with it.

After Fort Sumter, Lincoln removed insurrectionists from military and civil service; disqualified them from office; enacted sweeping protections. All before the next election.

Today Biden used his power to justly spare one American from imminent abuse.

Not asking why. But — Why so little, so late?
