@robinince.bsky.social very sad to hear about you and the monkey cage. Only just heard about it. Can't help wondering where the free speech warriors have been.

@theresthistory.bsky.social if Hitler had won the war, at least we'd be spared the Churchill impersonators.

New Zealand is going through tough times, and everyone has to accept there will be cuts. Effectively pay cuts for teachers and health care workers, inflation cutting the living standards of the poor, tax cuts for the rich and for landlords. Sharing the pain.

Christchurch council elections. Apparently the biggest issue facing the city is the difficulty people have getting their SUVs over speed humps.

Awful interview with Nick Clegg. All right, you 'won'. Nobody learns anything. Can I switch off now?

Reasons to use AI: Google summary for Rugby Championship fixtures gives you a list of fixtures instead of having to navigate the god-awful official site that only shows one round at a time. There's only four teams and 12 games. You don't need six pages for that

Seems to me that since the 80s our economy has been managed like a business whose owners are preparing to sell. Cutting costs, selling assets and delaying maintenance to make the books look good. But after 40 years the rot is rendering it worthless.
August 11, 2025 at 6:32 AM
@clrenney.bsky.social @bernardchickey.bsky.social how much of our current slowdown is due to the government contracting the economy after it was elected? How long can the government blame the conditions they inherited without anyone mentioning this? Is 18 months just too long for anyone to remember?

@rbreich.bsky.social join a book club. If only they'd thought of that in Germany in the 30s.

@helenlewis.bsky.social I'm not a scientist but sharks aren't as deadly as coconuts. More people get killed by falling coconuts than by sharks.

@bernardchickey.bsky.social has anyone looked into just how much benefit we get from tourism? We seem to spend an awful lot to generate low skill, low paid jobs while degrading our environment. How is this improving productivity and wage levels? Is it just a way to subsidize middle class holidays?

@michaelsteele.bsky.social listening to your podcast where you seem to be boasting about how you gerrymandered congressional districts. You claim to be appalled by Trump's subversion of democracy, but have no qualms about disregarding the will of the voters and corrupting the system when it suits.
