Congratulation to Taiyo Yamomoto, winner of the prize for Best Graduate Student Talk 2025 at the 20th International Xenopus Conference 2025. Molecular Models were delighted to offer one of our models, the DNA double helix (PDB 1BNA) as the prize.

We had a fantastic time at the 20th International Xenopus Conference at the Univ. of Portsmouth. Proudly displaying a selection of our colourful molecular models, it was great to meet so many delegates and share ideas.

Nucleosomes are the basic unit of chromatin and contain DNA wrapped twice around a core of 8 histone proteins (two each of H2A, H2B, H3 and H4).

Available in 9cm, 12cm & 15cm diameter with two magnetic halves, our models shows how the DNA wraps around the outside of the histone core. PDB code 1KX5.

The newest addition to our range, the DNA Plasmid Cloning model. Based on PDB code 1BNA, this is an idealised structure of a DNA plasmid with interchangeable parts to demonstrate how cloning works.

Plasmids are naturally-occurring circular DNA molecules from bacteria. They are widely used for gene cloning and gene expression in molecular biology. In gene cloning, restriction enzymes are used to cut out a fragment of plasmid. A gene to be studied is then ligated into the plasmid vector.

We're really proud to have had the opportunity to work with @professorpernilla.bsky.social to bring to life the beautiful and important world of protein structures!

This model of Top7 (a de novo protein) was used by Prof. Pernilla when The Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2024 was announced.

This is the structure of Tobacco mosaic virus (PDB 6SAE), an RNA plant virus with an amazing spiral-shape protein capsid.

TMV forms a spiral-shaped cylinder of 2130 subunits that encircles the single-strand RNA genome.

Based on PDB code 6SAE, this is the structure of tobacco mosaic virus (TMV). TMV forms a spiral-shaped cylinder of 2130 subunits that encircles the single-strand RNA genome.

These models of the subunits fit together to show more detail of how a TMV ring starts to form.

Based on PDB code 7KV8, this is the structure of dengue virus (DENV), a member of the RNA flavivirus family. This structure is part of a study to help solve the structures of flaviviruses, including new strains of DENV, Zika virus (ZIKV), West Nile virus (WNV) and Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV).

We're very proud to have made some of the models used in the Royal Institution Christmas lectures (2021) which were used to communicate the relationship between the Covid-19 spike protein, ACE2, antibody & nanobody.
