I did my year in books today. 30 novels, 17 graphic novels read myself and 9 novels, 2 graphic novels, 112 floppy comics read to the kids.
Best of the year goes to Bruce Coville's My Teacher Is An Alien series, Ferdia Lennon's Glorious Exploits, and Isabel Greenberg's The Hundred Nights of Hero.

I did my year in books today. 30 novels, 17 graphic novels read myself and 9 novels, 2 graphic novels, 112 floppy comics read to the kids.
Best of the year goes to Bruce Coville's My Teacher Is An Alien series, Ferdia Lennon's Glorious Exploits, and Isabel Greenberg's The Hundred Nights of Hero.

Finished the book I was reading (Martha Wells's Exit Strategy). To complete my end-of-year reading, I have to finish both Matt Dinnman's Gate of the Feral Gods (almost 600 pages) and Diana Wynne Jones's Castle in the Air, which I've been reading to the kids one chapter per night, both before 12/31.

Today's accomplishments: Made a healthy lunch for the week (quinoa with various veggies and beans), recorded a podcast about the Watcher with Graymalkin Lane, made British-style flapjacks as an after-school snack for the kids. Pretty good, all things considered.

Tonight I watched "The Pandorica Opens" while being crushed by the nine-year-olds, who were totally freaked out about what was in the box. And talk about a cliffhanger! We'll finish the two-parter on Sunday. #DoctorWho

I have no conferences today, so I will be spending the morning at my desk, finishing the second Dungeon Crawler Carl book and listening to the Pirates! The Penzance Musical soundtrack, which I just downloaded as I await the full cast list for the show I just got into. I lead a weird life.

I am closing the show I directed tonight, and then we have strike and a cast party that I'll probably be at for all of 30 minutes. 12 hours later, I have auditions for my spring show in which I have 30 seconds to get myself into a show that has 150 other people auditioning. 😭😭😭

I just started attempting to learn the music for my audition on Sunday. It SUUUUUCCCCKKKKKSSSSS. It's in 6/8, it's FAST, it's got differing numbers of rests between phrases each time, and it's Sondheim, so the accompaniment in no way matches up with the vocal line.
I have work to do before Sunday.

Other shows have the light board up and die 7 days before opening.
And some shows have an amazing lighting designer who owns his own board, brings it in and saves the day.

Salem's Lot got me into horror the same year.
Ultimate Spider-Man got me back into comics, which resulted in me working at Marvel for four years.

The librarian at my school has been getting the faculty to read the Dungeon Crawler Carl series. I'm about 40 pages away from finishing the first one, and he was right about it. It's super fun. I already have the second one on my nighttable.
