Month of taking one step away to study the canvas of the world, month of Midas eyes, month of belief, month of sun slant shifted closer to the earth, no longer filtered only through heaven, but through things we can touch— saffron dust, wheat stalks, small feathers on the singing throats of birds, fingerprints shimmering on skin. Month when even though the sky is still clear, the clouds are still white, even though the distance of darkness the light has to travel through is as lonesome as ever, even when the heavy shroud of twilight lays itself across the branches of night, the air is still gold. November light reaches us tinged with hope, spills across faces and marshes and fields and asphalt all the same, and I will collect it like pollen over paint as I race the labyrinth of highways between here and the home I'm seeking , over and over until I have enough to look my own reflection gold.
