This year, I hope the Israeli and Palestinian people find a way to put down their weapons and reach out their hands, bring families together, and rebuild communities.

In Australia, let's find peace and respect.

All hostages must be released, there must be a ceasefire, Hamas must demilitarise, aid to Gaza must increase, and the steps towards a two state solution must gain momentum.

It is two years today since the horrific Hamas terrorist attack on the people of Israel.

The conflict has brought immeasurable grief to the people of Israel and the innocent civilians of Gaza.

I’m Walking Towards Home to support Servants Housing in Kooyong.
Servants provides safe, affordable homes for vulnerable community members.

I’m walking 10ks/day for 10 days (my team assures me the treadmill counts!). The link to donate is in my bio — I’d love your support. 💙

My recent Parliamentary Budget Office costings showed we could double research spending from the MRFF while keeping over $24 bn in the fund.

The government should use the fund for what it’s for: improving Australian health research and innovation.

Curing a child’s epilepsy is a remarkable, lifechanging achievement.

Wonderful to see Australian neurologists using AI for world-leading research.

Last year the Medical Research Future Fund turned down at least 1/2 the AI grants it reviewed.

Sharing my statement in response to the peace process proposed this week.
I welcome the plan proposed this week in the hope that it might represent real progress towards peace in the Middle East.
Civilian deaths in Gaza and Israel must come to an end, all hostages must be returned, and aid must flow to Gaza. There must be no role for Hamas and no forced displacement of Palestinians.
There are reasons to be concerned that the plan may not work, but the situation is such that we must explore all opportunities to achieve a sustained peace agreement.

Bushfire season is coming.

Australians need to know that if they call 000 their call will always be answered.

The govt must give us that certainty by immediately legislating for a 000 custodian.

Emergency services are too important to be left to foreign private companies.

Australia has an amazing opportunity to use its Medical Research Future Fund to immediately supercharge healthcare innovation - to develop new medicines, new therapies, new cures.

The economic and social potential for our country is huge.

The government could release billions of dollars today.

The airlines will stop cancelling and delaying flights only when we enforce penalties for them doing that for commercial reasons.

The govt needs to hold the airlines to account with a compensation scheme for avoidable delays and cancellations. It’s worked overseas, it would work here.

Australia’s medical research sector is world-leading.

It would be even better if we spent the billion of dollars we’ve put into the Medical Research Futures Fund over the last 10y on the healthcare improvements and innovation it’s earmarked for.

The money is there for that purpose. Let’s use it.

By implementing simple, practical solutions we can improve air quality in childcare settings, schools, hospitals, aged care settings, and reduce absenteeism.

Young Australians are bearing more and more economic burden because of our failure to index tax brackets. As Ken Henry has put it, this is an act of intergenerational bastardry. We need to index tax brackets, lessen the load on wage earners, and stop giving subsidies to fossil fuel industries.
Young working Australians facing a decade of tax pain
The federal budget bottom line is improving, but it will be younger people doing the heavy lifting for the next 10 years.

Chris Bowen says the net zero transition is our best economic opportunity.

A climate target of 62-70% is blowing that opportunity.

I'll continue to push the government to use all means to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, to allow innocent civilians to be supported with housing, food, water and medical aid.
mon4kooyong.bsky.social
The Declaration underlines the international community's commitment to isolating Hamas, ending its rule in Gaza, and bringing all hostages home.
mon4kooyong.bsky.social
With that step we’ve joined 141 other nations in collective action towards ending the war in Gaza and committing to further political and humanitarian steps towards a just and lasting settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

My Clean Up Politics Act would shine a light on lobbyists’ activities and close the revolving door between the health ministry and the medical industry.

Australia spent billions on vaccines, RATs, and PPE during the pandemic.

Last month in Parliament, my motion to draw attention to dubious COVID vaccine procurements was voted down by the ALP and the LNP.

Acts of collusion by the major parties continue to corrode trust in government.

Labor campaigned heavily on climate action. This is a national disgrace. How can Australia expect to host COP31, when our own government clearly demonstrates a lack of commitment to action on climate?

Shame on the Albanese government.

I asked Chris Bowen about this in Question Time last week. Given the NT govt's failure to act, when will the federal govt step in to protect our health and our climate?

A gas plant 7km from Darwin has been leaking massive quantities of methane for 30 years. The NT Environment Protection Agency knew but has done nothing. The chair of the NT EPA is a paid lobbyist for the co-owner of the gas plant.

Australians are paying for the effects of climate change already. It's time the govt made big polluters pay their part. The first step is for the government to release its National Climate Risk Assessment report - to acknowledge, transparently and honestly, where we are and what we need to do.
