It's a saying that resonates with me as an artist, too. The surest thing an artist can do to self-sabotage is to judge their own work by the standards of other artists. You're just setting yourself up to fall short and feel depressed.

This is how it's *supposed* to work, how it *did* work not so long ago. I'm old enough to remember it. If you openly, full-throatedly endorse fascism, you (at the very least) become a social pariah because it demonstrates that you're a terrible human being.

Most of my friends and I live under perpetual existential dread because A) the government wants them eradicated over who they are, B) making ends meet is nearly impossible now, especially for creatives, and/or C) the planet is melting.
