Still proud to be an American, but embarrassed of the state it’s in AGAIN

For so many chose hate over a new way forward we could have been

Several steps back over the progress we've made

We must fiercely protect our freedoms before in darkness we fade

But still claim Christianity...What would Jesus do?

America includes me too. All our brown brothers and sisters, black, white, LGBTQ

They forgot what makes this country great includes everyone above

And refugees seeking asylum, but most importantly LOVE

But remain silent as they watch him put human beings in cages

Where the cries to build walls are loud and fearfully misguided

By a treasonous felon, twice impeached, four times indicted

Complicit in the treatment of others because we may not look, pray or love like you.

Emboldened to spout racism for they have never felt freer

I no longer recognize this country of ours, land of the free, home of the brave

As the same ones claiming patriotism malign war heroes in their grave

Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, justice for all races

But a new torch no longer guides them to shore, but lights up our streets

In hatred for those seeking a better life for their own

A dream to one day call America their home

In hatred for those who dare criticize their fear mongering leader
